COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Education in Integrated Science requires students to complete a comprehensive curriculum totaling between 131 and 138 credit hours, with a minimum grade of C required in all major courses. The program provides a strong interdisciplinary foundation across major scientific fields, including biology, chemistry, earth science, geography, and physics. Core courses include biological diversity, biological foundations, cell biology, genetics, general chemistry with laboratories, organic chemistry, earth science with lab components, conservation of natural resources, and introductory astronomy. This broad scientific base ensures that students develop a well-rounded understanding of multiple scientific disciplines.In addition to content knowledge, the program includes extensive professional education coursework to prepare students for teaching careers. These courses cover areas such as social justice in education, teaching adolescents, science teaching methods, advanced topics in science instruction, educational psychology, reading and writing in adolescence, and special education. Students also complete a fieldwork practicum and a full student teaching experience, providing hands-on classroom practice and real-world teaching exposure. A capstone course focused on professional practice allows students to reflect on and refine their teaching skills.Students must also choose a concentration in Chemistry, Earth Science, Life Science, or Physics, allowing them to specialize in a specific scientific area. Each concentration includes advanced coursework tailored to that field, such as analytical and inorganic chemistry for Chemistry, earth materials and ocean studies for Earth Science, anatomy and evolution for Life Science, and calculus-based physics and modern physics for the Physics concentration.Additional requirements include coursework in mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and general education, ensuring a balanced academic background. Overall, the program combines strong scientific knowledge, teaching methodology, and practical experience to prepare graduates for licensure and successful careers as secondary school science teachers capable of teaching diverse science subjects effectively.
