COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Education in Integrated Mathematics requires students to complete a rigorous curriculum of at least 121 credit hours, with a minimum grade of C in all major courses. The program focuses heavily on mathematics content, ensuring students build a strong foundation in key areas such as calculus, linear algebra, probability and statistics, discrete mathematics, algebra, and geometry. Core courses include analytic geometry and calculus I, II, and III, proofs in discrete mathematics, fundamental concepts of algebra and geometry, history of mathematics, and mathematical modeling for secondary teachers. Students also complete a computer science principles course to strengthen computational and analytical skills. Mathematics electives allow further specialization in topics such as differential equations, modern algebra, number theory, geometry, probability theory, and statistics.In addition to content knowledge, the program includes extensive professional education coursework designed to prepare students for teaching careers. These courses cover topics such as social justice in education, principles of teaching adolescents, mathematics curriculum, methods of teaching mathematics in secondary schools, educational psychology, educational technology, and strategies for health and learning. Students also complete a fieldwork practicum and a full student teaching experience, providing hands-on classroom exposure and practical teaching experience. A capstone course focused on professional practice helps students refine their instructional skills and reflect on their teaching development.General education requirements include courses in communication, psychology, humanities, social sciences, and basic sciences with laboratory experience, ensuring a well-rounded academic background. Overall, the program combines strong mathematical training with pedagogical development and real-world teaching practice, preparing graduates to become effective secondary school mathematics teachers. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving, and instructional skills, enabling graduates to teach mathematics confidently and support diverse learners in grades 7–12.
