COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science degree in Translation is a pre-professional program designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience necessary to succeed in the field of professional translation. The program combines a strong foundation in translation theory with hands-on practice across a variety of languages and professional contexts. Students are required to complete core courses that include introduction to technical or professional writing, multilingual information management, approaches to translation, and cross-language mediation, ensuring that they gain essential skills in research, terminology, and technology. To enhance professional specialization, students must also complete a minor, certificate, or second major, typically in high-demand fields such as business, technology, science, law, or healthcare, which allows them to apply translation skills in specific disciplinary contexts. The program offers five language concentrations: Arabic, French, German, Russian, and Spanish. Each concentration includes prerequisite courses in elementary and intermediate language study, translation practice, advanced translation courses, conversation for business and special purposes, and upper-division electives to deepen linguistic proficiency and cultural knowledge. Writing-intensive courses within each concentration further develop students’ ability to communicate clearly and professionally. In addition to language-specific coursework, students select from electives in related areas such as communication, marketing, information systems, history, and law to broaden their expertise. This structure ensures graduates not only master the source and target languages but also acquire sector-specific knowledge and professional skills that enhance their employability.
