COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Administration at Kent State University prepares students for professional careers in the sport industry by integrating academic coursework with practical experiences. Students acquire a strong foundation in sport administration through core courses such as Introduction to Sport Administration, Sport in Society, Governance in Sport, Facility Management, Organization, Administration and Leadership in Sport, Event Planning and Production, Sport Marketing, Sport and the Media, Sales Management in Sport and Entertainment, Legal Issues in Sport and Recreation, and Sport Enterprise. These courses provide both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into the business, social, and organizational aspects of sports.Practical learning is emphasized through field experiences and internships, including Practicum I and II and a comprehensive Internship in Sport Administration, which allow students to apply classroom learning in real-world environments and develop professional skills while building industry connections. The program also incorporates interdisciplinary business knowledge through courses such as Business Analytics, Introduction to Financial Accounting, Principles of Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, and Principles of Marketing. Additional requirements include communication skills, general psychology or sociology, and foundational Kent Core courses in composition, mathematics, humanities, fine arts, and basic sciences to ensure a well-rounded education.Students must also complete a minor and general electives, which allow them to customize their education and gain specialized expertise to complement their major. This combination of sport-specific courses, business principles, practical experiences, and general education prepares graduates to pursue careers in sport administration, event management, marketing, public relations, and leadership roles within professional sports organizations, collegiate athletics, community programs, or recreational facilities.The program’s comprehensive structure, interdisciplinary approach, and emphasis on experiential learning ensure that students graduate with the knowledge, skills, and professional readiness to make meaningful contributions to the sport industry. The minimum total credit hours for completion is 120, including 39 upper-division credit hours, making it a robust pathway for those aspiring to succeed in various aspects of sport administration.
