COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Psychology with optional concentrations is designed to prepare students for graduate study, professional programs such as medicine or podiatry, and careers in clinical, research, and applied psychology. The program emphasizes a rigorous scientific foundation, research skills, and applied experience, while allowing students to specialize in areas such as child psychology, pre-medicine/podiatry, or cognitive and behavioral neuroscience.Core major requirements include introductory and advanced psychology courses such as General Psychology, Quantitative Methods I and II, Research Methods, Psychopathology, Personality or Social Psychology, and Biopsychology. Students develop analytical skills, research proficiency, and the ability to interpret data. Additional requirements ensure proficiency in communication, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and laboratory-based sciences, often including a foreign language and Kent Core requirements, helping students meet general education and critical thinking standards.For students not declaring a concentration, the program includes upper-division psychology electives, application of psychological science electives (such as laboratory research, individual investigation, internships, or honors projects), cognition/learning courses, developmental electives, and mathematics and science courses. These components ensure a broad foundation in psychology while allowing students to tailor their studies to their career or graduate school goals.The Child Psychology concentration focuses on child and adolescent development, psychological disorders in youth, cognition, and research experience, including electives in social and personality development, children’s thinking, and pediatric psychology. The Pre-Medicine/Pre-Podiatry concentration emphasizes biological and physical sciences, including courses in human physiology, cell biology, genetics, microbiology, chemistry, physics, and organic chemistry, alongside psychology and sociology electives, preparing students for medical or health-related professional programs.Across all tracks, writing-intensive courses and research-focused electives develop students’ communication and scientific reasoning skills. Graduates gain both theoretical knowledge and practical experience, equipping them for careers in healthcare, research, education, or advanced graduate study in psychology, neuroscience, or medicine. The program requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, with 71 upper-division and specialized credit hours in the major and concentration courses, ensuring both depth and flexibility in study.
