COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Music Technology program requirements are designed to provide students with a balanced combination of musical knowledge, technical expertise and industry experience. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Theory I and II, along with specialized subjects like Music Production I and II and Audio Recording I and II. These courses help students develop essential skills in sound design, recording techniques and digital music production. In addition, students study Contemporary Popular Music Theory and courses like Understanding Western Music and Music as a World Phenomenon, which broaden their musical perspective and cultural awareness.As students advance, they explore the history and business side of the music industry through courses such as Western Music History, History of Contemporary Popular Music and Navigating the Music Industry. These subjects provide insight into how the industry functions and how music has evolved over time. A key component of the program is the Music Technology Internship, which gives students real-world experience and helps them apply their classroom knowledge in professional settings.Performance and practical musicianship are also emphasized throughout the program. Students are required to participate in major ensembles such as choir, orchestra or band, and complete applied studio musicianship courses where they focus on instruments like guitar, bass, drums, keyboard or voice. Piano training is also included to strengthen overall musicianship.In addition to major coursework, students complete supporting courses in business or management and computer science, ensuring they are well-prepared for the technical and commercial aspects of the industry. The program also offers concentrations in Audio Recording, Music Production and Performance, allowing students to specialize based on their career goals. Overall, the program requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and equips students with the creative and technical skills needed for success in modern music careers.
