COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science program requires a total of 120 credit hours and combines intensive coursework in biology, chemistry and clinical laboratory sciences with general education requirements. The major requirements focus heavily on life sciences, beginning with foundational courses such as biological diversity, biological foundations, human genetics and human physiology. As students advance, they study specialized subjects including cell biology, microbiology, immunology and infectious diseases, which are essential for understanding human health and disease processes.The chemistry component is equally important, with courses in general chemistry, organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, inorganic chemistry and biological chemistry, along with laboratory work to develop practical skills. In the later stages of the program, students complete a series of clinical laboratory science (CLS) courses that cover areas such as clinical microbiology, immunology, mycology, parasitology, clinical chemistry, urinalysis, immunohematology, coagulation and hematology. These courses include both theoretical knowledge and applied learning, preparing students for real-world laboratory settings. A course in laboratory management is also included to build organizational and professional skills.In addition to science courses, students are required to complete a programming or coding course, as well as mathematics courses such as trigonometry and statistics to strengthen analytical abilities. Supporting requirements include general education courses in composition, humanities and social sciences, along with a small number of general electives. Overall, the program is designed to provide both strong scientific knowledge and hands-on laboratory expertise, preparing graduates for clinical training and certification, and enabling them to work effectively in hospitals, diagnostic labs and healthcare environments.
