COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Journalism program provides a comprehensive curriculum designed to develop strong reporting, storytelling and media production skills. Students begin with foundational courses such as media, power and culture, writing for media, multimedia journalism and reporting or broadcast reporting, which help them understand how news is created and communicated across different platforms. As they progress, they study important areas like media law, ethics and social issues in journalism, including topics related to race, gender and representation in media industries. A key component of the program is the required internship, which allows students to gain real-world experience and apply their classroom knowledge in professional settings. The program also offers a wide range of electives, enabling students to specialize in areas such as photojournalism, television production, podcasting, feature writing, editing and public policy reporting. Advanced electives further enhance skills in multimedia news production, magazine writing and audio storytelling, preparing students for specialized roles in the industry. In addition to major coursework, students complete core requirements in communication and information, which may include subjects like social media strategies, intercultural communication, user experience design and creative coding. General education courses in writing, mathematics, humanities, social sciences and basic sciences ensure a well-rounded academic foundation. Overall, the program requires a minimum of 120 credit hours and emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience.
