COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, including major requirements, additional courses, and concentration-specific coursework. The major requirements, which count toward the major GPA, include introductory and core courses in health and medical sciences, anatomy and physiology, biomechanics, exercise physiology, statistics, exercise testing, advanced exercise physiology, and a seminar in exercise physiology. Students also take courses in gerontology, human nutrition, human growth and development or lifespan motor development, the United States health care system or facility management, and psychological foundations of sport and exercise.Additional courses that do not count toward the major GPA include general chemistry with laboratory, general psychology, and UC 10001: Flashes 101. Students must also complete Kent Core requirements, including 6 credit hours in composition and a minimum of 9 credit hours in humanities and fine arts.Students choose one of four concentrations, totaling 49 credit hours, to specialize in a particular area of exercise science. These concentrations are Exercise Physiology, Exercise Specialist, Pre-Physical/Occupational Therapy/Podiatric Medicine, or Strength and Conditioning. Each concentration provides targeted coursework and experiences that align with specific career or graduate school goals. The program is structured to ensure that students gain a strong foundation in scientific principles, practical skills, and professional knowledge, preparing them for careers in clinical, wellness, or athletic settings or for further study in graduate programs.The curriculum is designed to balance theoretical knowledge, laboratory experience, and applied skills, equipping students to become competent, entry-level professionals in the field of exercise science while meeting academic and professional standards.
