COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science degree in Emerging Media and Technology provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both technical and creative aspects of modern media and technology applications. The program requires a combination of core courses, upper-division electives, and experiential learning opportunities, emphasizing hands-on, project-based, and interdisciplinary work. Students begin with foundational courses in design innovation, technology, experience design, web development, and creative coding. These courses introduce them to essential tools, methodologies, and approaches used in emerging media while fostering skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and innovation.Intermediate and upper-division courses further develop students’ expertise in human-computer interaction, data in media and technology, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Students engage in collaborative projects, often working in teams that integrate multiple disciplines to design and implement technology-driven solutions. The program also includes an internship component, allowing students to gain real-world experience, apply classroom knowledge in professional contexts, and develop industry connections.In addition to major requirements, students select upper-division electives and College of Communication and Information electives, which may include courses in photography, documentary filmmaking, branding, social media strategies, and user experience design. This flexibility encourages students to explore complementary fields and refine their individual interests within the emerging media landscape.Kent Core requirements ensure students gain a well-rounded education, covering composition, mathematics, critical reasoning, humanities, fine arts, social sciences, and natural sciences. The program also allows for minor or certificate coursework and general electives to complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, including at least 39 upper-division credits.Graduates of the Emerging Media and Technology program are equipped to create, analyze, and manage innovative media solutions across a variety of industries. The curriculum’s emphasis on technical skills, creative problem solving, interdisciplinary collaboration, and practical experience prepares students for careers in media production, technology development, design, user experience, and related fields, while also providing the adaptability to thrive in rapidly changing technological environments.
