COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Digital Media Production at Kent State University offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in film, television, animation, and other media formats. The major requirements emphasize both technical and creative skills, starting with foundational courses such as Elements of Film, TV and Animation, Production Fundamentals, Story for Picture, Directing for Picture, and Digital Video Editing. Students also gain expertise in producing, cinematography, sound design, and advanced production techniques through courses like Producing for Picture, Digital Cinematography, Sound for Picture, and Production I and II. The program includes an internship and a writing-intensive ethics course to provide practical experience and professional development. Advanced Skills Electives allow students to specialize in areas such as studio television, multimedia engineering, scriptwriting, audio storytelling and podcasting, advanced video editing, post-production sound, motion graphics, and aerial cinematography.Additional program requirements include the College of Communication and Information core electives, which provide interdisciplinary opportunities, including courses in branding, documentary filmmaking, international experiences, human-computer interaction, creative coding, visual design, and user experience design. General education requirements are integrated with Kent Core courses in composition, mathematics, humanities and fine arts, social sciences, basic sciences, and additional electives, ensuring a well-rounded education. FLashes 101 is also required to support college transition skills. Students must complete a minimum of 120 credit hours, including 39 upper-division credits, with a minimum C- grade in all major courses.The curriculum is designed to equip students with a balance of creative, technical, and professional skills, enabling them to create high-quality media content for multiple platforms.
