COURSE CURRICULUM
The Construction Management bachelor's degree program is designed to prepare students for leadership roles in the construction industry by combining technical knowledge, practical skills, and managerial expertise. The program provides a comprehensive understanding of construction processes, materials, methods, and technologies, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to manage complex projects. Core courses cover construction safety, materials and methods, surveying, mechanical and electrical systems, building structures, estimating, contracts, scheduling, and building information modeling. Students also complete a construction management internship and a capstone project, providing hands-on experience and the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world projects. Additional coursework in accounting, economics, technical writing, finance, mathematics, management, marketing, and physics complements the major, giving students a well-rounded foundation in business and technical principles. Kent Core requirements further develop critical thinking, composition, social science understanding, and humanities appreciation, ensuring graduates are prepared for professional communication and decision-making. Students may choose from optional concentrations such as Civil Management, Mechanical and Electrical Management, or Safety Management, allowing them to tailor their education to specialized career paths. Civil Management focuses on subcontractor leadership, civil estimating, utility systems, and soils and materials. Mechanical and Electrical Management emphasizes building information modeling, alternative energy systems, mechanical and electrical estimating, and subcontractor leadership. Safety Management prepares students to oversee workplace safety, risk management, industrial hygiene, and occupational law. Electives in architecture, interior design, and construction management expand knowledge of design and construction integration. With access to experienced faculty, industry insights, and advanced technologies, students develop the skills required to plan, coordinate, and execute construction projects efficiently, safely, and sustainably. By the time of graduation, students will have acquired both the technical expertise and leadership capabilities necessary to thrive in residential, commercial, and industrial construction environments, ready to take on roles such as project manager, estimator, scheduler, site supervisor, or safety coordinator.
