COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Anthropology program has a structured and science-focused curriculum designed to provide in-depth knowledge of human evolution, culture, and archaeology. The major begins with core courses such as introduction to cultural anthropology, archaeology, and human evolution, along with a laboratory-based course that strengthens practical understanding of evolutionary concepts. Students also complete advanced coursework like archaeological analysis and research methods, as well as mathematics courses including trigonometry and calculus, which highlight the program’s analytical and scientific approach. In addition, students are required to complete upper-division anthropology electives to deepen their expertise in specialized topics.The program ensures a balanced understanding of the field by requiring students to take electives in archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology. These courses allow students to explore areas such as ancient civilizations, primate studies, human variation, sustainability, and medical anthropology. Beyond the major, students must fulfill general education requirements, including foreign language study, composition, humanities, and social sciences, along with general electives to reach a total of 120 credit hours.A key component of the program is the choice of concentration: Archaeology or Biological Anthropology, each requiring 27 credit hours. The Archaeology concentration includes coursework in chemistry or physics, geology, and geography, along with training in earth materials and geographic information systems, emphasizing fieldwork and environmental analysis. The Biological Anthropology concentration focuses on genetics, biology, and chemistry, with courses in cell biology and laboratory sciences, along with electives in ecology, anatomy, evolution, and physiology. Overall, the program combines scientific training, field and lab experience, and interdisciplinary study to prepare students for research careers or advanced education in anthropology and related fields.
