COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design requires completion of a comprehensive set of major courses, electives, and study-away experiences, totaling a minimum of 120 credit hours. Major requirements, which count toward the major GPA, provide students with a strong foundation in fashion design principles and professional skills. Core courses include fashion fundamentals, fashion visuals and laboratory work, fashion fabrics and laboratory, sustainable fashion thinking and laboratory, introduction to fashion technology and laboratory, basics of apparel construction, history of fashion, and fashion technology applications. Students then progress to design-focused courses such as fashion drawing, fashion design concepts, 2-D and 3-D fashion design practice, and contemporary fashion designers.Advanced courses emphasize professional development and portfolio preparation. These include Fashion Portfolio I and II, Senior Fashion Design Thesis I and II, and an internship in fashion design, providing practical, hands-on experience in professional settings. The program also requires a fashion study-away experience to enhance international exposure and broaden design perspectives.Students complete additional major electives, selecting from advanced courses in fashion design and related interdisciplinary fields. This allows students to tailor their education to individual interests, such as wearable technology, accessory design, or sustainable practices.The curriculum is structured to integrate conceptual knowledge, technical skills, and production expertise, preparing students for professional careers in the creative industries. By combining studio practice, design theory, applied technology, and global experiences, graduates develop the competencies necessary to create professional portfolios, pursue competitive entry-level positions, and succeed in a dynamic and global fashion industry.
