COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Psychology program is carefully structured to provide students with a strong foundation in psychological science, research methods and applied knowledge. The major requirements begin with an introductory course in psychology, which familiarizes students with core concepts related to human behavior, thoughts and emotions. This is followed by quantitative methods and research methods courses, which are essential for developing analytical, statistical and scientific research skills. These courses prepare students to design studies, interpret data and apply evidence-based reasoning in both academic and professional settings.The curriculum is organized into several core areas of psychology to ensure a well-rounded understanding of the field. In the behavioral neuroscience and learning category, students study how the brain and biological systems influence behavior. The cognition component focuses on mental processes such as perception, thinking and memory. In the social and personality section, students explore how individuals interact with others and how personality develops. Additionally, students complete a writing-intensive or laboratory-based course that emphasizes research experience and professional-level communication skills.Beyond the core requirements, students must complete general education courses in areas such as composition, mathematics, humanities, social sciences and basic sciences. A significant number of general electives allow students to customize their academic path and explore related interests. The program requires a minimum of 120 credit hours, ensuring both depth and breadth of knowledge.Students also have the option to specialize through concentrations or additional coursework. Those not selecting a concentration complete courses in developmental and clinical psychology along with upper-division electives. Alternatively, the Child Psychology concentration focuses on child development and related disorders, while the Counseling Careers concentration emphasizes assessment, clinical psychology and intervention techniques. Overall, the program prepares students for diverse careers or advanced study in psychology and related fields.
