COURSE CURRICULUM

The programs at Kent State University offer diverse undergraduate pathways combining technical skills, theoretical knowledge, and professional preparation across multiple disciplines. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design develops students’ creative, technical, and sustainable garment-making skills, including color theory, sketching, pattern-making, and portfolio development, while providing internships and study abroad opportunities in fashion capitals like New York, Paris, and Florence. Complementing this, the Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising emphasizes the business side of fashion, equipping students with expertise in retail operations, merchandising, marketing, forecasting, and apparel production, with options for minors and a combined B.S./M.B.A. degree for accelerated graduate study. The Bachelor of Arts in Geography bridges natural and social sciences, teaching students to analyze spatial patterns of the environment and society using GIS, mapping, and research methods, preparing graduates for careers in environmental management, urban planning, and government or nonprofit work. Finally, the Bachelor of Arts in History trains students in critical thinking, research, and communication, emphasizing political, cultural, social, and economic factors across time, with lower- and upper-division electives, area and thematic studies, and a senior seminar or capstone project that develops independent historical research and professional skills applicable to education, research, and public history careers.
