COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economic theory, quantitative analysis, and applied problem-solving skills, preparing them for a wide range of professional and academic opportunities. The program emphasizes understanding how individuals, firms, and governments make economic decisions, and how these decisions affect broader markets and societies. Students begin with core courses in microeconomics and macroeconomics, where they learn the fundamental principles of economic behavior and the functioning of national and international economies.In their junior year, students advance to intermediate courses in microeconomic theory, macroeconomic theory, and applied econometrics, developing critical skills in data analysis, statistical modeling, and empirical evaluation. These courses equip students to analyze real-world economic issues, interpret trends, and provide evidence-based recommendations. Students also take Business Analytics I, which strengthens their ability to organize, manage, and analyze business and economic data effectively.Upper-division electives allow students to explore specialized areas of economics that align with their career interests, such as financial markets, international trade, labor economics, health economics, and public policy. These courses provide opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application.In their senior year, students complete a capstone course, Senior Seminar in Economics, which integrates the skills, knowledge, and analytical techniques acquired throughout the program. This course emphasizes research, critical thinking, and written and oral communication, enabling students to present well-reasoned economic analyses and solutions to complex problems.Additional requirements, including mathematics, foreign language, Kent Core courses, and general electives, ensure a well-rounded education, equipping graduates with strong quantitative, communication, and critical thinking abilities. With a total minimum of 120 credit hours, the B.A. in Economics prepares students for careers in business, finance, government, consulting, and policy analysis, as well as for advanced study in economics or related fields.
