COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts degree in Earth Science offers a comprehensive program designed for students interested in understanding the natural processes that shape our planet, combining classroom study with hands-on field experience. The major curriculum begins with foundational courses in chemistry and geology, including General Chemistry I with its laboratory component, and core Earth Science courses such as How the Earth Works, Earth and Life Through Time, and Earth Materials I and II. These courses provide students with a solid grounding in the physical and chemical processes that govern the Earth, along with practical laboratory skills. Students also complete data analysis coursework specific to the Earth Sciences, preparing them to interpret complex datasets and apply analytical methods in their studies and future careers.Geographic Information Science (GIS) is a critical component of the program, with courses such as Geographic Information Science and upper-division electives in meteorology, climate, environmental hazards, and conservation. These courses equip students to assess and visualize spatial data and environmental phenomena, preparing them for careers that involve geographic and environmental analysis. The program also offers flexibility through upper-division electives in both Earth Science and Geography, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests, such as climate science, oceanography, or natural resource management.In addition to major requirements, students fulfill general education and elective requirements, including foreign language study, composition, humanities and fine arts, social sciences, and general electives, ensuring a well-rounded academic experience.
