COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology program requires students to complete a well-structured curriculum that builds a strong foundation in the study of human cultures, societies, and biological evolution. Core courses include introduction to cultural anthropology, archaeology, and human evolution, along with a laboratory-based course that provides hands-on understanding of evolutionary concepts. Students also complete a research methods course, which develops their ability to conduct qualitative research and analyze anthropological data, an essential skill for both academic and professional work in the field.In addition to the core courses, students must complete upper-division anthropology electives, allowing them to explore advanced topics and deepen their knowledge. The program also requires students to choose electives from three key subfields: archaeology, biological anthropology, and cultural anthropology. Archaeology electives focus on topics such as ancient civilizations, field methods, and artifact analysis, while biological anthropology electives explore areas like human variation, genetics, primate behavior, and evolution. Cultural anthropology electives examine subjects such as religion, medical anthropology, sustainability, and cultural systems, providing insight into human beliefs, practices, and social structures.Beyond the major, students are required to complete foreign language coursework and general education requirements in composition, mathematics, humanities, social sciences, and basic sciences, ensuring a well-rounded academic experience. A significant number of general electives allow for additional flexibility and interdisciplinary learning. The program requires a minimum of 120 credit hours to graduate.
