COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Arts in Teaching program includes a comprehensive set of core courses totaling 41 units, each designed to equip students with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed to become effective educators. The curriculum begins with foundational courses such as Educational Foundations (EDU501), which introduces the historical and philosophical basis of education, and Psychological Foundations (EDU506), which explores developmental and learning theories essential for teaching diverse learners. Social Cultural Foundations of Education (EDU507) examines the impact of culture, equity, and diversity in educational settings.Literacy Instruction across the Curriculum (EDU505) provides strategies for integrating literacy into all subject areas, while Curriculum and Instruction I and II (EDU508 and EDU509) focus on designing, assessing, and maintaining effective learning environments that support student success. The program also includes Research Methods (EDU572), which prepares students to critically evaluate educational research and conduct their own studies, culminating in a final Research Project (EDU671) where students apply these skills to a real-world issue in education.Student Teaching Seminar I and II (EDU575 and EDU576) are integrated field experiences that allow candidates to apply coursework in actual classroom settings under supervision. These seminars emphasize reflective practice, classroom management, lesson planning, and student engagement. Together, these core courses ensure that graduates are well-prepared to meet the challenges of today’s educational landscape and to make a lasting impact in their future classrooms.
