COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science curriculum offers students a comprehensive foundation in kinesiology and its applications to health and clinical settings. The core coursework includes essential subjects such as Foundations of Kinesiology, General or Introductory Chemistry with lab, Principles of Biology I with lab, Nutrition, Human Physiology with lab, Biomechanics with lab, and Exercise Physiology with lab. Students also complete a Clinical Practicum and a Senior Seminar, along with a course in Statistics, totaling 36 core units. These courses are designed to equip students with both theoretical understanding and practical skills in the scientific principles underlying physical health, movement, and performance.In addition to the core, students are required to complete 16 units of electives. They must choose one specialized 4-unit course from Essentials of Strength and Conditioning, Exercise Leadership and Personal Training, or Exercise Testing and Prescription with lab. The remaining 12 elective units are selected from a wide range of courses that align with the student’s interests and career goals. These include topics such as Sports Psychology, Sports Nutrition, Athletic Injury Prevention, Coaching, Motor Development, Sports Ministry, and Exercise for Chronic Disability. Students can also explore related areas such as Medical Terminology, Pathophysiology, Biopsychology, Chemistry II, and Physics for Life Sciences. Upper-division coursework is required for at least 6 of these units, ensuring advanced study in the discipline. Additionally, students have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through internships. This well-rounded academic structure prepares students for a variety of roles in fitness, rehabilitation, sports, and clinical healthcare settings, or for pursuing graduate studies in fields such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, or sports medicine.
