COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminal Justice program at Jessup University offers a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for careers in law enforcement, public policy, and related fields. With the option to complete the program on-campus or online, students begin with foundational courses in American history and psychology before advancing into core topics such as criminology, crime prevention, constitutional rights, procedural justice, and criminal investigations. The curriculum is designed to equip students with a deep understanding of the legal system, law enforcement practices, and the ethical responsibilities of criminal justice professionals. Courses such as Police and Society, Crime Scene Investigation, and Laws of Arrest, Search, and Seizure offer practical insights into real-world criminal justice scenarios, while courses like Ethics in Public Policy and Procedural Justice and Implicit Bias focus on developing integrity and cultural awareness in future leaders. Students must complete either an internship with a law enforcement or public service agency or a research project, ensuring hands-on learning and professional development.To further specialize their studies, students choose one of three concentrations: General, Psychology, or Political Science. The General Concentration allows flexibility by letting students choose 12 units from various concentration electives. The Psychology Concentration includes courses in social, abnormal, and community psychology, addiction, and multicultural issues. The Political Science Concentration offers a deep dive into government functions, political theory, public administration, law, and policy analysis. These concentrations help tailor the degree to students’ career goals—whether in law enforcement, legal advocacy, mental health, or public service. Jessup's Criminal Justice program emphasizes not only practical job skills but also ethical leadership and service to the community, ensuring graduates are well-prepared to make a positive impact in a wide range of criminal justice and public policy careers.
