COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry program at Jessup University features a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide students with a rigorous foundation in the biological and chemical sciences. The program begins with core courses such as Calculus I (MATH140) and two semesters of Principles of Biology (BIOL101/101L and BIOL102/102L), both of which include laboratory components to develop hands-on research skills. Students also explore the relationship between science and faith through a unique course, Origins: Intersection of Faith & Science (BIOL176), and conclude their biology studies with the Biology Senior Seminar (BIOL498), which focuses on integration and application of knowledge.The chemistry sequence includes General Chemistry I and II (CHEM110/110L and CHEM111/111L), followed by Organic Chemistry I and II with labs (CHEM210/210L and CHEM310/310L). Students then delve into advanced biochemistry coursework through Biochemistry I (CHEM321), Biochemistry II (CHEM322), and the Biochemistry Lab (CHEM322L), which provide essential training for careers in medical, research, or industrial fields. The physics component includes two courses tailored for life sciences (PHYS101/101L and PHYS111/111L), ensuring students gain an understanding of physical principles relevant to biological systems.To broaden their scientific expertise, students choose 12 elective units, including at least one course from each category: mathematics, upper division biology, and upper division chemistry. Options include Statistics, Calculus II, Microbiology, Genetics, Pathophysiology, Biopsychology, Nutrition & Metabolism, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, and Environmental Chemistry, as well as practical experiences like a Biology Internship. This flexible elective structure allows students to tailor their education to specific career interests, whether in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, or environmental science.
