COURSE CURRICULUM

The Jessup University music program offers a well-rounded curriculum designed to equip students with comprehensive skills in music theory, performance, and leadership, while allowing them to specialize in an area aligned with their professional goals. The core music curriculum consists of 34 units covering applied music lessons, class piano, ear training, music theory, basic conducting, music technology, ensemble participation, and a music internship. Students also complete a senior recital or senior project, depending on their chosen track. In addition to the core, students choose from five specializations: General Music, Commercial Music, Music Education, Performance, or Worship Arts, each requiring 19 units.The General Music track offers flexibility, primarily serving transfer students, allowing them to select 19 units of music electives not included in the core curriculum. The Commercial Music specialization focuses on audio production skills, including courses in live sound mixing, Pro Tools (with Avid certification), sequencing, and music business. Music Education prepares students to teach multiple instruments and includes pedagogy, conducting, and arranging courses. The Performance track emphasizes advanced musical training with applied lessons, a junior recital, conducting, vocal pedagogy, and electives. The Worship Arts specialization is designed for students pursuing music ministry, combining technical, theological, and leadership training, including courses like theology for worship and worship planning, as well as optional audio production tools. Through these specialized pathways, the program nurtures musicians ready for diverse careers in music performance, education, production, or ministry.
