COURSE CURRICULUM

The Liberal Studies program at Jessup University offers a flexible and comprehensive curriculum that prepares students for careers in education or related fields. All students complete a 24-unit core that integrates essential educational foundations with general education subjects. Courses include Multicultural Education, Foundations of Education, Educational Psychology, American History, Analytical Inquiry, Conceptual Physics, Developmental Psychology, and Language, Culture, and Literacy. Students who choose a concentration outside of Multiple Subject Education must also complete a career exploration course based on their academic level.Students select one of five 18-unit concentrations: Multiple Subject Education, English, History, Child Development, or Psychology. The Multiple Subject Education concentration consists of a 36-unit sequence tailored for those pursuing a teaching credential. It includes in-depth coursework and extensive field experience in curriculum development across core subjects, instructional technology, physical education, the arts, and student teaching.The English concentration allows students to explore literary traditions and creative writing, including upper-division literature electives and a capstone course. The History concentration blends historical studies with education-focused methods and a literature or political economy component. The Child Development concentration prepares students for roles in early childhood education and family services, emphasizing developmental stages, observation, language arts, and community dynamics. The Psychology concentration offers an in-depth study of mental health, relationships, multicultural issues, and Christian perspectives on psychology.Each concentration culminates in a capstone project, allowing students to synthesize and apply their knowledge. The program as a whole supports students in becoming well-rounded, informed, and capable professionals, particularly within educational settings. Whether pursuing teaching credentials or exploring specific subject areas, graduates are well-equipped for further study or immediate entry into the workforce.
