COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science in Human-Centered Interaction Design with an Individualized Concentration is structured to build foundational knowledge, applied skills, and specialized expertise in designing user-centered digital experiences. In the first year, students begin in the fall with Design Perspectives and Qualitative Discovery Research, providing a strong grounding in design theory and research methods. The spring semester introduces Theories of Human Interaction and Users and Populations, emphasizing understanding human behavior and diverse user needs. During the summer, students complete Design Patterns and Contexts alongside a course in Special Topics in Human-Centered Interaction Design, fostering practical and contextual design skills. In the second year, the fall semester focuses on Design Tools and Processes and a concentration elective, allowing students to develop technical competencies and tailor their studies to specific interests. The spring semester includes Research Methodology and Writing or a Design Research Studio, combined with a concentration elective, preparing students for applied or scholarly work. The program culminates in the summer with a graduate thesis or applied project in Human-Centered Interaction Design, paired with a final concentration elective, enabling students to synthesize their learning in a practical, research-driven, or innovative design project. This sequence balances theory, research, and applied practice to prepare graduates for leadership roles in human-centered design, UX research, and digital experience innovation.
