COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science in Healthcare Informatics with an Individualized Concentration is structured to provide both a strong foundation in healthcare IT and the flexibility to tailor the program to individual career goals. In the first year, students begin in the fall with Healthcare Informatics and either Healthcare Systems or an elective, establishing core knowledge of healthcare IT systems and organizational contexts. The spring semester focuses on healthcare data and essential skills, equipping students with the ability to manage, analyze, and leverage healthcare information effectively. During the summer, students complete Essential Informatics Skills II and an introduction to modeling, optimization, and decision-making, enhancing their analytical and problem-solving capabilities for healthcare applications. In the second year, the fall semester is dedicated to electives, allowing students to pursue specialized interests and deepen expertise in areas relevant to their career aspirations. The spring semester includes an elective and research methodology and writing, preparing students for applied or scholarly work. The program culminates in the summer with either a graduate thesis or an applied project in healthcare informatics, alongside an elective, enabling students to synthesize their learning in practical or research-driven projects. This sequence balances foundational knowledge, analytical skills, and personalized specialization to prepare graduates for leadership roles in healthcare IT and informatics.
