COURSE CURRICULUM

Computer Information Sciences with a concentration in Software Engineering and Software Testing is designed to build strong foundations in computing while progressively developing advanced software design and quality assurance skills. In the first year, students begin in the fall with computing systems architecture and data structures and algorithms, establishing core knowledge in system-level design and efficient programming. The spring semester introduces data engineering and mining along with software architecture and microservices, focusing on scalable, modular, and data-driven software systems. During the summer, students study software verification and validation alongside theory of computation, strengthening formal methods, correctness, and analytical reasoning. In the second year, the fall semester emphasizes large-scale system support and quality through big data architectures and software testing principles and techniques. The spring semester includes an elective or a course on current topics in software engineering and software testing, combined with research methodology and writing to prepare students for applied or research-based work. In the final summer, students complete an elective or special topics course and culminate the program with an applied project or graduate thesis. This structured sequence prepares graduates for professional roles in software development, testing, quality assurance, and software engineering leadership.
