COURSE CURRICULUM

Master of Science in Computer Information Sciences with a concentration in Scientific Computing is designed to progressively develop strong computational, analytical, and modeling skills. In the first year, students begin in the fall with computing systems architecture and data structures and algorithms, establishing a solid foundation in system design and efficient problem solving. The spring semester introduces data engineering and mining alongside scientific computing I, focusing on numerical methods and computational techniques used in scientific applications. During the summer, students advance their skills through scientific computing II and theory of computation, strengthening mathematical rigor and algorithmic reasoning. In the second year, the fall semester emphasizes scalable systems and modeling through big data architectures and computer simulation, enabling students to analyze and simulate complex systems. The spring semester includes an elective or a course in current topics in scientific computing, along with research methodology and writing, preparing students for applied or research-focused work. In the final summer, students complete an elective or special topics course in scientific computing and culminate the program with an applied project or a graduate thesis. This structured sequence prepares graduates for careers in computational science, research, and advanced technical roles.
