COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Biotechnology concentration within the Master of Science in Biotechnology is designed to provide students with advanced, application-oriented knowledge at the intersection of biotechnology and medicine. This concentration requires completion of 12 semester hours selected from specialized courses that address critical areas of modern medical and clinical biotechnology. Coursework covers advanced topics in drug discovery and delivery, biomedical devices and prototyping, emerging trends in diagnostics, pharmacogenomics, cancer biotechnology, clinical pharmacology, and regenerative medicine, allowing students to explore both therapeutic and diagnostic innovations. Students may also choose a biotechnology graduate internship to gain hands-on industry or clinical research experience, strengthening the practical relevance of their studies. An elective course further enables students to tailor the concentration to specific medical or research interests. The curriculum emphasizes the application of biotechnology to disease prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, integrating scientific research with translational and clinical perspectives. Graduates of this concentration are prepared for careers in medical and clinical research, pharmaceutical and biotechnology development, diagnostics, regulatory support, and healthcare technology, contributing to the advancement of innovative medical solutions and improved patient outcomes.
