COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Biotechnology is a 36-semester hour program that combines a strong scientific foundation with specialized training in biomanufacturing. Students complete 18 semester hours of core coursework covering biomaterials, omics for life sciences, biostatistics, experimental design, biotechnology instrumentation, and professional development through a graduate seminar, ensuring a solid understanding of both theoretical and applied biotechnology principles. The program also includes 6 semester hours of experiential learning through research methodology and writing, followed by either an applied biotechnology project or a graduate thesis, allowing students to apply scientific knowledge to practical or research-based challenges. The Biomanufacturing concentration consists of 12 semester hours focused on large-scale biological production and industrial biotechnology processes. Courses emphasize principles of bioprocessing, fermentation technologies, industrial enzymes and proteins, and innovation in research and development, with the option to gain hands-on industry experience through a biotechnology graduate internship. An elective course allows further customization based on career interests. This concentration prepares graduates for roles in biomanufacturing, process development, quality operations, and industrial biotechnology within pharmaceutical, biomedical, and life science industries.
