COURSE CURRICULUM

The Student Learning Outcomes for the Freshwater and Marine Biology program at Gannon University are designed to prepare students with strong scientific knowledge and practical skills needed for careers in aquatic science. Students learn to understand and evaluate the role of scientific theory and experimentation in studying aquatic environments. They are trained to identify and apply the common research methods and procedures used by aquatic scientists to investigate freshwater and marine ecosystems. The program also helps students understand the key concepts and principles that explain how aquatic ecosystems function and interact with their surroundings.In addition, students gain practical experience with laboratory equipment and scientific techniques commonly used in aquatic research. They learn the specialized language used in aquatic science, including concepts from related disciplines such as biology, chemistry, geology, and physics, which are essential for understanding complex environmental systems. Another important outcome is the ability to analyze scientific literature related to aquatic science, enabling students to evaluate research findings and stay informed about developments in the field.The overarching goal of the program is to prepare students for successful entry into careers related to aquatic science or for further study in graduate school. By combining theoretical knowledge, laboratory skills, and research experience, the program equips graduates with the ability to study aquatic ecosystems, solve environmental problems, and contribute to the protection and sustainable management of water resources and marine life.
