COURSE CURRICULUM

The Student Learning Outcomes for the History program at Gannon University aim to develop students’ understanding of global historical developments and strengthen their analytical and communication skills. Students learn about the historical, political, economic, philosophical, technological, and socio-cultural developments of both the Western and non-Western worlds. Through written assignments and class discussions, they examine how these developments have shaped societies and influenced modern global systems.The program also focuses on improving students’ academic writing and argumentation skills. Students learn how to research historical topics, develop thesis-based papers, and present well-supported oral arguments using evidence and critical analysis. In addition, they explore global and cross-cultural perspectives, analyzing how factors such as race, class, and gender have influenced historical events, social structures, and long-term historical trends.Another key outcome is the application of historical knowledge to real-world responsibilities and ethical perspectives. Students connect their understanding of history to the duties of global citizenship while also engaging with principles such as Catholic Social Teachings and the Catholic intellectual tradition through discussions, written work, and service learning activities. Overall, these outcomes help students develop strong historical knowledge, critical thinking abilities, and a sense of social responsibility that can support careers in education, policy, research, and other professional fields.
