COURSE CURRICULUM

The Student Learning Outcomes for the Global Cultures program at Gannon University focus on developing language proficiency, cultural understanding, and strong research skills. Students in this program are expected to achieve an Intermediate Mid to High level of proficiency in at least one target language according to the guidelines of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). This language proficiency helps students communicate effectively and understand the cultural perspectives of different societies.In addition, students learn to identify and analyze the cultural context in which both literary and non-literary works are created. These works may include literature, films, popular culture, folklore, and other forms of artistic expression. By studying these materials, students develop the ability to critically evaluate cultural products and understand how historical, social, and cultural factors influence them.The program also emphasizes strong academic and research skills. Students apply sound research methods, gather reliable information, and present their ideas clearly and accurately through writing and analysis. Another key outcome is experiential learning, where students combine classroom knowledge with meaningful real-world experiences such as cultural immersion, internships, study abroad programs, or community engagement. Overall, these learning outcomes ensure that graduates gain language competence, cultural awareness, and analytical abilities needed for global careers or further graduate study.
