COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Science in Homeland Security Administration curriculum is designed to provide students with advanced knowledge and leadership skills in homeland security, emergency management, cybersecurity, and organizational leadership. All courses in the program are available in an online format, offering flexibility and accessibility for working professionals and non-traditional students. The program begins with four required core courses that establish a strong foundation in homeland security principles and strategic management. Homeland Security and Constitutional Issues examines the legal and constitutional challenges related to national security and public safety. Research and Policy Analysis develops students’ abilities to conduct research, evaluate policies, and apply analytical methods to homeland security issues. WMD/Terrorism Awareness focuses on threats involving weapons of mass destruction and terrorism preparedness, while Strategic Planning, Implementation, and Evaluation teaches students how to design, manage, and assess effective homeland security strategies and organizational responses. In addition to the required courses, students must complete eight elective courses. The program allows students to customize their studies by either selecting electives from multiple areas or choosing to specialize in one of two concentration options by taking six electives within a specific concentration. The Terrorism and Security Studies concentration focuses on national and global security threats, cybersecurity, disaster management, emergency preparedness, and terrorism-related issues. Courses include topics such as computer and network security, cyber forensics, border security, bioterrorism preparedness, catastrophic emergency planning, and historical perspectives of terrorism. This concentration prepares students for careers related to intelligence analysis, emergency response, cybersecurity, and national security operations. The Leadership concentration emphasizes organizational leadership, communication, human resource management, ethical decision-making, conflict resolution, and team building. Students learn how to manage organizations effectively, implement change, develop collaborative leadership strategies, and strengthen workplace communication and decision-making processes. Overall, the curriculum provides a balanced combination of security studies, leadership development, and practical management training, preparing graduates for leadership roles in homeland security agencies, emergency management organizations, law enforcement, cybersecurity, and related public and private sector fields.
