COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering is a 121-credit program designed to provide students with strong theoretical knowledge, practical engineering skills, and professional preparation for careers in mechanical engineering and related industries. The curriculum begins with foundational courses in engineering design, calculus, physics, programming, chemistry, and communication, helping students build analytical, scientific, and technical problem-solving abilities. As students progress through the program, they study essential mechanical engineering subjects such as statics, dynamics, strength of materials, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, engineering materials, manufacturing processes, computer-aided design and manufacturing, industrial automation, control systems, stress and vibration analysis, and electrical energy conversion. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and practical applications through laboratory experiences, design projects, and technical training. Students learn how to analyze, design, test, operate, and maintain mechanical systems and engineering processes while also developing skills in project management, engineering economics, statistics, and reliability analysis. Senior-level coursework includes Mechanical Engineering Design and a Senior Design Project, where students apply their technical knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. The curriculum also includes general education and university courses that strengthen communication skills, ethical understanding, cultural awareness, and global perspectives. Students are required to complete nine credits of technical electives, allowing them to specialize in areas such as HVAC systems, advanced fluid mechanics, microcontroller systems, project management, thermal systems analysis, electronics, or digital system design. Opportunities for cooperative education experiences further provide practical industry exposure and professional development. In addition, Mechanical Engineering majors may pursue a 15-credit minor in Electrical Engineering, which offers foundational knowledge in electronics, microprocessors, digital systems, control systems, and electrical energy conversion, expanding career opportunities in interdisciplinary engineering fields. Overall, the BSME program provides a balanced and comprehensive engineering education that prepares graduates for careers in manufacturing, automation, automotive systems, energy, robotics, product design, aerospace, and other advanced engineering industries while also preparing them for graduate study and professional licensure opportunities.
