COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology degree program requires the successful completion of 120 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point ratio of 2.00 and is designed to provide students with strong technical, engineering, and management skills for careers in the construction industry. During the first year, students build a foundation in engineering practices, graphics and design, precalculus, general physics with laboratories, composition, and university life preparation. In the second semester, students continue with calculus, computer-aided design, advanced physics, and professional development courses that strengthen technical communication and analytical abilities. During the third semester, students begin specialized construction engineering technology coursework through studies in general chemistry, surveying, construction materials and systems, statics, and calculus II. The fourth semester focuses on technical communication, strength of materials, engineering statistics and reliability, programming languages in engineering, and modern technologies, helping students develop technical problem-solving and computational skills. In the fifth semester, students advance into structural analysis, concrete structures, estimating, soil mechanics, and fluid mechanics, gaining practical knowledge related to infrastructure and construction systems. The sixth semester includes timber structure building systems, steel structures, foundations, dynamics, and cross-cultural perspectives, preparing students for complex engineering and construction management responsibilities. During the seventh semester, students study project management and control, construction practices, building inspection and maintenance, management and engineering economics, and technical electives that allow further specialization. In the final semester, students complete environmental and land-use planning, bridge engineering, a construction technology design project, technical electives, and global issues coursework. Technical electives provide opportunities to study areas such as hydraulic design, seismic design, materials technology, HVAC systems, surveying, estimating, and contracts and specifications. Students may also substitute approved work experience or cooperative education experience for technical elective credits. Overall, the curriculum combines engineering principles, applied technical training, project management, laboratory experience, and real-world construction applications to prepare graduates for careers in construction management, structural systems, project supervision, infrastructure development, estimating, and related engineering technology professions.
