COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering Technology degree program requires the successful completion of 120 credits with a minimum cumulative grade point ratio of 2.00 and is designed to provide students with strong technical, analytical, and practical engineering skills. During the first year, students build foundational knowledge through courses in engineering practices, graphics and design, precalculus, general physics with laboratories, composition, and university life preparation. The second semester introduces students to computer-aided design, calculus, advanced physics, and professional development courses that strengthen technical communication and problem-solving abilities. In the third semester, students begin specialized civil engineering technology studies through coursework in general chemistry, surveying, construction materials and systems, statics, and calculus. The fourth semester continues with technical communications, strength of materials, engineering statistics and reliability, programming languages in engineering, and modern technologies, helping students develop computational and analytical engineering skills. During the fifth and sixth semesters, students study advanced civil engineering topics such as structural analysis, estimating, soil mechanics, fluid mechanics, concrete structures, foundations, bridge engineering, dynamics, and steel structures. These courses provide practical knowledge related to infrastructure design, structural systems, and construction technologies. In the seventh semester, students focus on project management, building inspection and maintenance, material technology, engineering economics, and technical electives that allow them to specialize in areas of interest. The final semester includes environmental and land use planning, a civil technology design project, additional technical electives, and studies in global issues, allowing students to apply their accumulated knowledge to real-world engineering challenges. Technical electives include subjects such as highway design, hydraulic design, seismic design, stress and vibration analysis, advanced concrete and steel design, contracts and specifications, project management, and estimating. Students may also substitute up to six credits of approved work or cooperative education experience for technical electives. Overall, the program combines engineering theory, laboratory work, design projects, technical training, and industry-focused education to prepare graduates for careers in construction, transportation, structural systems, environmental planning, surveying, and infrastructure development within the civil engineering technology field.
