COURSE CURRICULUM
The Fairleigh Dickinson University Radiologic Technology Bachelor of Science program prepares students for careers as licensed radiologic technologists who perform diagnostic imaging procedures such as X-rays in hospitals, clinics, and imaging centers. The program follows a “3+2” structure in which students complete approximately 90 credits over three years at FDU, followed by two years in a JRCERT-accredited hospital-based certificate program. Graduates gain extensive clinical experience and become eligible for careers in radiography, with opportunities for future specialization in CT, MRI, mammography, nuclear medicine, and other imaging fields. Employment prospects are strong, with reported high placement rates and competitive salaries. The curriculum combines general education, allied health sciences, and specialized radiologic technology preparation. Students study communication, healthcare technology, bioethics, sociology, psychology, anatomy and physiology, chemistry, microbiology, molecular biology, medical terminology, pathophysiology, statistics, and healthcare research. Science-intensive coursework develops a strong understanding of human biology and medical imaging principles, while professional communication and global studies courses strengthen interpersonal and cultural competencies. During the final hospital internship phase, students participate in hands-on clinical training that may require full-time attendance at laboratory and clinical sites five days per week. The program also emphasizes professional growth, ethical healthcare practice, and patient-centered care. Because admission into affiliated hospital certificate programs is competitive and separate from FDU admission, students work closely with advisors early in the program to identify suitable JRCERT-accredited pathways. This interdisciplinary and clinically focused degree is ideal for students interested in healthcare technology, patient interaction, and diagnostic medicine, while also providing a foundation for advanced imaging certifications and long-term career advancement in the medical imaging profession.
