COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Information Technology provides students with a structured and career-focused curriculum that combines technical knowledge, programming, cybersecurity, networking, communication, and practical problem-solving skills. The degree begins with foundational courses in computer concepts, software applications, algebra, composition, and university life preparation before progressing into specialized information technology subjects such as programming, internet and web applications, digital systems design, web design, computing security, data structures, database systems, operating systems, Linux administration, computer networks, cybersecurity, and capstone project development. Throughout the program, students also complete liberal arts, technical communication, statistics, global issues, and cross-cultural studies courses to strengthen analytical thinking, communication abilities, and global awareness. The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world applications through laboratory science electives in physics, chemistry, or biology, as well as opportunities for cooperative education experiences that can provide industry exposure and academic credit. Students are required to complete six credits of approved IT technical electives and must either pursue a concentration or complete a minor approved by an academic advisor. The program offers several concentration options tailored to different technology career paths. The Web Development Technology concentration focuses on internet programming and web-based application development through courses such as Programming for the Internet. The Network and System Administration concentration emphasizes operating systems, network management, and systems administration skills through courses like Operating Systems. The Security and Forensics concentration prepares students for careers in cybersecurity and digital investigations by including specialized courses such as Computer Technologies and Cyber Crime, File System Forensic Analysis and Investigation, Computer Forensics Applications, Information Security, and Survey of Computing Security. This concentration also aligns with national cybersecurity education standards. Overall, the program equips students with strong technical expertise, programming abilities, cybersecurity knowledge, communication skills, and practical experience necessary for careers in software support, web development, systems administration, cybersecurity, digital forensics, networking, and information technology management.
