COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Studies Bachelor of Science program at Fairleigh Dickinson University offers four distinct concentrations — Science, General, Exercise Science, and Global Health — allowing students to customize their education according to their healthcare and career goals. All students complete 43 credits of General Education coursework that develops communication, healthcare technology, ethics, cultural understanding, science, mathematics, psychology, sociology, and humanities skills. Core health studies coursework includes Anatomy and Physiology II, Epidemiology in Healthcare, Medical Terminology, Utilization of Healthcare Research, Social Determinants of Health, Healthcare Law and Policy, Population Health, Healthcare Economics, Statistics, and Pathophysiology. These courses provide students with a strong understanding of healthcare systems, disease processes, healthcare policy, research interpretation, and population wellness. The Science concentration is the most intensive track and is designed for students planning graduate or professional study in medicine, dentistry, physical therapy, occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, pharmacy, or related clinical professions. Students complete advanced biology, chemistry, physics, genetics, microbiology, molecular biology, organic chemistry, and biochemistry coursework similar to pre-medical science preparation. The General concentration is designed for students interested in nursing, allied health, or general healthcare careers while maintaining flexibility through electives and free electives that support study abroad, minors, or future nursing pathways. Students complete microbiology, chemistry for health sciences, healthcare management, and a practicum experience. The Exercise Science concentration is ideal for students interested in fitness, sports performance, nutrition, wellness, rehabilitation, or exercise-related graduate programs. Specialized courses include Human Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition, Healthcare Management, and a Health Studies Practicum. The Global Health concentration focuses on worldwide healthcare systems, public health, healthcare inequalities, nutrition, and healthcare policy from an international perspective, making it especially suitable for transfer students, students pursuing public health careers, or those interested in global healthcare issues. The program also provides flexibility through major electives and free electives, allowing students to tailor their education further. Graduates are prepared for healthcare careers, graduate education, public health programs, clinical professions, wellness industries, healthcare administration, and many other expanding areas within the healthcare field.
