COURSE CURRICULUM

The Bachelor of Science in Finance at Fairleigh Dickinson University combines the University and Business Core Curriculum with specialized finance coursework that prepares students for careers in banking, investments, corporate finance, wealth management, and financial analysis. As part of the business core, students complete FIN3250 Principles of Financial Analysis and FIN3310 Intermediate Financial Analysis, which establish a strong foundation in financial decision-making, accounting interpretation, investment evaluation, and corporate financial management. The major then requires advanced finance courses including FIN4341 Financial Markets and Institutions, FIN4343 Securities and Investments, and FIN4405 Analytical Methods in Finance. These courses help students understand financial systems, stock and bond markets, portfolio analysis, investment strategies, financial modeling, and institutional finance. Students further customize their education by selecting elective courses in areas such as personal financial management, sports finance, portfolio management, derivatives, capital budgeting, working capital management, and finance internships. Internship opportunities allow students to gain practical experience in real financial environments while building professional connections. The program also offers a specialized concentration in Financial Planning and Wealth Management for students interested in careers involving personal financial advising, retirement planning, insurance, taxation, and wealth management services. This concentration includes courses such as WMA4350 Investment Planning, WMA4375 Risk Management and Insurance, WMA4265 Personal Tax Planning, retirement planning, estate and gift planning, client psychology, and a financial planning capstone course. Students may also complete wealth management internships to gain direct industry experience. The curriculum is aligned with professional certifications such as the CFA Institute and the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, helping students prepare for globally recognized finance and financial planning licenses. Through practical coursework, Bloomberg terminal access, investment competitions, internships, and experiential learning opportunities, students graduate with analytical, technical, and communication skills needed for careers such as financial analyst, investment banker, portfolio manager, financial planner, wealth advisor, corporate finance specialist, risk analyst, and investment consultant.
