COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sports Management program with a Sports Medicine concentration at Fairleigh Dickinson University combines sports business education, exercise science, health sciences, and psychology to prepare students for careers in sports medicine, fitness, rehabilitation, wellness, athletic administration, and healthcare-related professions. The curriculum requires completion of 120 credits and includes 42 credits of general education courses, university core requirements, sports management coursework, sports medicine specialization courses, electives, and internship experiences. Students complete foundational university courses such as WRIT1002 and WRIT1003, communication courses, technology literacy, ethics, mathematics or statistics, sciences, humanities, arts, and social sciences while also fulfilling university-wide global and cross-cultural learning requirements through courses like UNIV2001 Cross-cultural Perspectives and UNIV2002 Global Issues or approved substitutes. The major curriculum introduces students to sport management principles, sports marketing, economics, fundraising, sports law, facility management, leadership, international sports administration, and sports internships. Specialized Sports Medicine courses provide scientific and clinical knowledge through anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, human kinesiology, nutrition and wellness, strength and conditioning, safety and injury prevention, abnormal psychology, human development, medical terminology, biological sciences, and psychological statistics. Students may also explore related topics such as sports analytics, coaching, athletic training management, esports, wellness, accounting, communication, and business law through flexible elective options. Internship opportunities and applied coursework allow students to gain practical experience in sports organizations, fitness centers, rehabilitation facilities, schools, wellness clinics, and community recreation programs. The program is designed for students seeking careers in personal training, sports performance, coaching, rehabilitation support, recreational therapy, athletic administration, or graduate study in healthcare-related disciplines such as occupational therapy, physical therapy, exercise science, or sports psychology. Through its interdisciplinary curriculum, the program develops leadership, communication, analytical, and scientific skills while preparing graduates for the growing sports, fitness, wellness, and healthcare industries.
