COURSE CURRICULUM

Students in the Elementary Education master’s program at DePaul University have the option to pursue an initial Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with an Elementary Education endorsement for Grades 1–6, or, for those who are already licensed teachers, to add an Elementary Education (Grades 1–6) endorsement to their existing PEL. The program is designed to prepare educators with the instructional knowledge and classroom management skills needed to teach effectively in diverse elementary school settings. Coursework focuses on developing strategies for differentiated instruction, creating supportive classroom environments, and engaging students at varying developmental levels to promote academic growth and confidence. Classes are held primarily in person on DePaul’s Lincoln Park Campus, with some courses offered in hybrid or online formats during select quarters to provide additional flexibility for students. The program is structured to be completed in approximately two years, allowing candidates to progress efficiently while gaining both theoretical understanding and practical teaching experience. Through a combination of academic coursework and applied learning, graduates are prepared to enter or advance in elementary education roles where they can positively impact young learners and contribute to student success in meaningful and lasting ways.
