COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Social Work (MSW) program at DePaul University offers a comprehensive curriculum that integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application to prepare students for advanced professional practice. The program emphasizes professional ethics, respect for human rights, and the inherent dignity of all individuals, equipping students to work effectively with diverse populations. Students can choose from three specialized concentrations based on their career goals. The Community Practice concentration focuses on leadership and management skills for those aiming to lead human service organizations. The Forensic Social Work concentration prepares students to work at the intersection of social services and the legal system, emphasizing advocacy and intervention in justice-related settings. The School Social Work concentration equips students with the theoretical, analytical, and practical skills needed to support students’ social, emotional, and academic development within educational environments.The curriculum combines classroom instruction with extensive field education, allowing students to apply their knowledge in real-world settings through supervised placements across the Chicago area. Students are organized into small cohorts, fostering collaboration, peer support, and personalized guidance from faculty. Courses are offered on the Loop Campus during weekday afternoons and evenings, providing some flexibility for working students. The program can be completed in two years on a full-time basis or extended to three or four years for part-time study, accommodating different schedules and commitments. Field placements require daytime availability and serve as a critical component of the program, helping students build professional experience and develop practical skills.
