COURSE CURRICULUM

The Master of Nonprofit Management (MNM) at DePaul University is a graduate program that combines practical and academic coursework to prepare students for leadership roles in nonprofit organizations or to launch their own nonprofit ventures. The curriculum requires completion of 52 quarter credit hours, which includes ten core courses and three elective courses. Core coursework covers foundational concepts in public service and nonprofit management, nonprofit financial administration, resource development, fundamentals of human resource management, applied statistics for public service, advocacy and lobbying, research methods, ethical leadership, and an integrative seminar that synthesizes learning across the program. These core courses are designed to build competencies in management, finance, human resources, ethics, strategic planning, and advocacy—skills essential for effective nonprofit leadership. In addition to core requirements, students select three electives from a range of topics such as public service management, volunteerism in global civil society, program development and evaluation, values-centered leadership, group dynamics, marketing for service organizations, working with nonprofit boards, strategic management and planning, law and nonprofit organizations, and grant and proposal writing, among others, allowing them to tailor their studies to specific interests or career goals. The curriculum blends theoretical frameworks with applied knowledge, equipping students to analyze nonprofit challenges, apply ethical decision-making, and use qualitative or quantitative data to inform organizational strategies. Offered in both on‑campus and online formats, the program supports students in gaining both the practical skills and critical thinking necessary to advance nonprofit missions and contribute to positive social impact. Completion of the MNM degree prepares graduates for a wide array of positions in the nonprofit sector, including management, development, advocacy, and leadership roles.
