COURSE CURRICULUM

The Education, Culture, and Society master’s program at DePaul University is designed for teachers, administrators, and individuals who hold a bachelor’s degree and are interested in exploring educational issues from a broad, interdisciplinary perspective, even if they are not currently professional educators. The program brings together students from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, creating a rich learning environment where multiple perspectives on education, policy, and society can be examined and discussed. Throughout the program, students develop a deeper understanding of how education intersects with culture, identity, politics, and social structures, with a strong emphasis on equity and social justice. The curriculum encourages critical thinking about how educational systems operate and how they can be improved to better serve diverse and historically marginalized communities. Graduates of the program pursue a wide range of career paths in educational and community-focused settings, including media organizations, nonprofit and community-based agencies, museums, K–12 schools, and higher education institutions. The program also provides a strong academic foundation for students who wish to continue their studies at the doctoral level in educational policy studies or related fields. By engaging with both theory and practice, students are prepared to analyze complex educational challenges and contribute meaningfully to conversations about reform and inclusion. Ultimately, the program empowers students not only to understand issues of equity in education but also to actively participate in shaping and leading efforts toward more just and inclusive educational systems, moving beyond observation to meaningful action and leadership in their chosen fields.
