COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics program at DePaul University provides students with a strong foundation in how markets function, how decisions are made, and how economic forces shape societies, businesses, and governments.Through core coursework such as Econometrics, students learn how to apply statistical methods to real economic data in order to test theories and analyze real-world problems. Game Theory helps students understand strategic decision-making, where outcomes depend on the choices of multiple individuals, firms, or institutions.Students also explore specialized fields within economics. Environmental Economics examines how economic activity affects natural resources and environmental policy. Health Economics focuses on healthcare systems, costs, and policy decisions affecting public health. International Economics studies global trade, exchange rates, and economic relationships between countries.Other important areas include Labor Markets, which analyzes employment, wages, and workforce trends, and Urban Economics, which studies how cities develop and how resources are allocated in urban environments. Money and Banking provides insight into financial systems, monetary policy, and the role of central banks.Law and Economics and Governmental Regulation of Business help students understand how legal systems and government policies influence business activity and market outcomes. Sports Economics applies economic principles to the sports industry, including pricing, labor contracts, and revenue systems.The program also offers both Regular and Honors tracks, allowing students to choose a path that matches their academic goals and level of challenge.Overall, this curriculum prepares students for careers in economics, finance, public policy, consulting, and data analysis, while also building strong analytical and critical thinking skills for graduate study and professional growth.
