COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health Sciences program at DePaul University offers a structured curriculum designed to build strong foundations in both biological sciences and public health while preparing students for diverse careers in healthcare, research, and healthcare administration. The coursework begins with core subjects such as Health Research Literacy, which teaches students how to evaluate scientific studies, interpret health data, and understand evidence-based practices in healthcare. Introduction to Public Health provides a broad overview of population health, disease prevention, and the social, environmental, and behavioral factors that influence health outcomes. Students also take foundational science courses such as General Biology and Microbiology, which establish essential knowledge of human biology, cellular processes, pathogens, and the biological basis of disease.Students in the program choose from several concentrations that allow them to tailor their studies according to their career goals. The Bioscience concentration is designed for students pursuing clinically focused or laboratory-based careers and includes multiple pathway options. The General Track provides a broad scientific foundation for flexible career preparation, while the Lab Investigations Track emphasizes hands-on laboratory skills and research techniques. The Medical/Graduate Track is geared toward students planning to pursue advanced degrees in medicine or related health fields, and the Pre-Nursing Track prepares students for entry into nursing programs by focusing on foundational clinical and biological knowledge.An important feature of the Bioscience concentration is the Bioscience – Accelerated Program, which offers a fast-track pathway for qualified students who are accepted into competitive 3+ professional programs. These pathways support entry into fields such as Medicine, Pathologists’ Assistant programs, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant studies, and Podiatry, allowing students to progress efficiently toward advanced healthcare careers. In addition to the Bioscience track, students may also choose the Public Health Sciences concentration, which focuses on community health, healthcare systems, policy, and health communication, preparing graduates for roles in public health organizations, healthcare administration, and related fields. Overall, the program combines scientific rigor with applied learning to equip students for a wide range of impactful careers in the healthcare industry.
