COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computer Science + History (CS+HST) program at DePaul University prepares students for careers that integrate technical computing skills with historical analysis and social science research methods.Graduates can become software developers who also understand historical context and social science methodologies. This allows them to build technology solutions that are informed by knowledge of how societies, institutions, and cultural systems have developed over time. Their work can include creating digital tools, platforms, or applications that support research, education, and public understanding of history and social change.Alternatively, graduates may pursue careers as historians or researchers who use technology to enhance their analysis of historical and social science questions. With strong computing skills, they can work with digital archives, data visualization tools, and computational research methods to investigate historical patterns and present findings in innovative, technology-driven ways.Overall, the program prepares students to bridge the gap between the humanities and technology, enabling them to apply both historical insight and computational thinking to a wide range of academic, professional, and applied research contexts.
